What is sachet?

Sachets are small, flexible sealed bags flexible bags with three- or four-layer packaging known for their convenience of being easily customized into concise styles. Sachets are manufactured from materials such as aluminum, plastic, cellulosic, non-plastic, and cloth.

The word coming from French sachet, literally "little sack", a diminutive of sac. A reborrowing of a word that Middle English had used in the sense "small bag, wallet”

Sachets are extremely effective at keeping products airtight and protected from contaminants, however the physical protection offered is minimal, therefore any products within sachets should not be breakable or easily damaged with knocks.

Sachets are highly economical, handy, and easy to transport as well as preserve product inside for extended periods. Sachets are made by sealing flexible barrier films on all four sides to protect the contents inside from light, moisture and oxygen. They can be opened either by pulling apart the sides.

Sachet packaging is prevalent in the hospitality industry, including hotels, coffee shops, restaurants and airlines. The most common products in sachets are liquids with a thicker consistency such as creams, gels, and sauces, as well as powders like salt, sugar, grains, and spices. Small solids may also be in sachets, such as beans.
